Operation Compassion Receives Water Purification Grant
Operation Compassion recently received a $2 million grant from World Emergency Relief for water purification units. This grant was provided as a national grant to assist rural areas in areas where the water has been polluted by industry, natural disasters or build up of silt and debris. In particular, the areas of Appalachia and the Indian Reservations of the west will be prominent recipients of these units.
With the four truckloads of Sylvan Source M-600 water purification wall units, Operation Compassion will be able to provide six gallons of water pure enough for drinking and cooking each day. That is enough water for the consumption of a family of five per day on average. This unit, valued at $3,500, operates with a minimum of electric power and contains no consumables, no filters to change or buy, just rinse and replace. Once the unit is installed, there is very little cost and maintenance.
The Sylvan Source M-600 is currently one of only two products that have been tested and certified to the NSF/ANSI 62 standard. In addition, the M-600 is certified by Underwriters Laboratories, IAPMO, the California Department of Health Services, the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and the Wisconsin Department of Commerce, Safety and Building Division for fulfilling the claims of effectiveness.
This grant is a tremendous breakthrough for Operation Compassion. There is a big need for clean drinking water in so many areas. It will be a refreshing change to provide a method of purifying water without having to bring it in bottles.
In addition, Operation Compassion is waiting on final approval for a grant to supply water purification units to third world countries through the Bill Gates Foundation.
