Sit-in Held at Proposed D.C. Planned Parenthood Clinic
Group risked arrest as they peacefully knelt in the streets in hopes of blocking construction on the proposed abortion clinic.
The sit-in took place on Monday, September 21, at 10:00 A.M. at 1225 4th St. NE in Washington, D.C.
Activists held a news conference to discuss their efforts and the defunding of Planned Parenthood before the sit-in.
The pro-life leaders called upon Pope Francis to address the pro-life issue and the defunding of Planned Parenthood when he speaks before a joint session of Congress on Wednesday, September 23.
The event is called #justiceforall.
Rev. Patrick Mahoney, principal organizer and Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, states;
“A generation ago, civil rights activists gathered as a bold and public witness to stand against the injustice of racism and segregation. They risked arrest at lunch counters, on buses and in the public square for peacefully embracing the eternal principles of justice for all.
“Today, this generation, faces a similar challenge on the issue of abortion. How we can passively sit by while our brothers and sisters are being brutalized and women being diminished through a tragic act of violence?
“Simply stated, as civil rights workers sat-in at lunch counters to stand against segregation, we will peacefully sit-in in front of Planned Parenthood standing against violence and the crushing of human rights!
“We will peacefully kneel in the streets in an attempt to halt construction on a facility that will one day take the lives of innocent children. On this, we can never be silent!
“#justiceforall will also be respectfully asking Pope Francis to address the issue of abortion and Planned Parenthood when he speaks to a joint session of congress on September 23. May our witness of sacrifice inspire him!”
