Church of God in North Georgia Tops 100,000 Members

In August of 2011, the Church of God in North Georgia reached the milestone of 100,000 in church membership. As a result of this achievement, the International Executive Committee in their recent session earlier this month approved the reclassification of North Georgia as a Six Star State. Dr. Wallace Sibley, secretary general for the Church of God and Executive Committee liaison for the North Georgia region said, “Congratulations and best wishes are extended to the leadership of North Georgia, the state council, pastors, ministers and laity. This is a first in the American states and regions. This classification as a Six Star State is a high honor and worthy of our praise.”

“This accomplishment is a tribute to the dedicated North Georgia leaders and members who over more than a century have demonstrated faithful commitment to the mission of the Church of God,” stated Dr. Michael Baker, administrative bishop. “The assimilation of believers into the life of a local congregation is vital to the growth and development of a healthy local church. This recognition is the result of many devoted and faithful North Georgia leaders, pastors, ministers and laity. Let me express appreciation to everyone over the decades for their vision, devotion to ministry, and faithfulness bringing us to this high point celebration.”

Baker went on to thank the International Executive Committee for their action, honor and congratulations for North Georgia’s achievement.

“As we continue to focus on the future,” Baker concluded, “let us join our hearts and hands together, standing shoulder-to-shoulder as we move to the next level of ministry.”
