I’ve been holding my tongue for a few weeks since I learned that Bishop Thomas Weeks III was arrested after being accused of kicking, choking and hitting his wife, prominent preacher Juanita Bynum, in a hotel parking lot in Atlanta on Aug. 22. We did not need another embarrassing display of religious hypocrisy played out in the national media.

In a close 4-3 decision on Tuesday, the Maryland Court of Appeals, ruling in Conaway v. Deane, smacked down arguments by the ALCU, nine homosexual couples and a lower state circuit court which had earlier ruled that Maryland’s law reaffirming the true definition of marriage as the union between one man and one woman amounted to unconstitutional “sex discrimination.”
