Two Church of God Army chaplains passing through Kuwait on their way back to the states for a mid-tour R&R had the good fortune to meet while awaiting flights. Chaplain (CPT) Jeff Bartels and Chaplain (CPT) Jeff Roberson were in Kuwait when they happened to connect with each other.

Most American Christians today are unfamiliar with Julio Ruibal, the humble Bolivian preacher who was known in South America as “the apostle of the Andes.” He was martyred in 1995 in Cali, Colombia, where he and his wife, Ruth, planted a church and were mobilizing unity among churches in order to stop the violent drug cartels that controlled that city.

This is the time of year when many in the Pentecostal/Charismatic family of churches are celebrating camp meetings and youth camps. In these special gatherings there is family-style fellowship, dynamic music and anointed preaching. There is, however, one central transforming experience from these meetings that cannot be replaced: the life-changing experience with God at the altar. The promise that “we have an altar” not only describes our heritage but, if embraced, will determine our horizon for the future.
