The Sunday, October 5 episode of the popular ABC show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition featured the Akers family of West Chester, Ohio, a suburb of Cincinnati. The family was selected to receive a new home, in part because the family’s two daughters, Brooke and Faith, suffer from spinal muscular atrophy. Also, their dad, Greg, and brother, Christian, have Crohn’s disease.

Zondervan, one of the world’s largest religious publishers, is launching a cross-country tour by motor coach to mark the 30th anniversary of its New International Version of the Bible. The 135-day Bible Across America tour will give people an opportunity to write a Bible verse by hand. Copies of the handwritten Bible will then be published and sold.

People for Care and Learning, a Cleveland-based non-governmental organization formed to combat poverty and address solutions for impoverished families, celebrated the opening of its new office facilities with a ribbon-cutting last week, according to Dr. Fred Garmon, executive director. Each year for the past three years, the International Department of Youth and Christian Education has coordinated an international training event in Europe. Teams of pastors and local church leaders and staff have gone annually to conduct training at the European Theological Seminary, followed by training conferences in Brussels, Amsterdam, and Paris.
