Stevens Creek Church Honored by the United States Military
Augusta, GA–On Sunday, June 12, 2011, Stevens Creek Church of God received a Military Commendation, The Commanders Coin, from Col. D.J. Reyes, the highest ranking official at Fort Gordon, Georgia.
“When Col. Reyes took over command at Fort Gordon in 2009, he made Stevens Creek his home church,” stated Stevens Creek senior pastor Marty Baker. “While serving in this position he drew strength from the Lord and the ministries of The Creek.”
According to Baker, the Commanders Coin is given to those individuals who are “always vigilant”. The honor has never been given to a church family until now. Col. Reyes thanked Pastor Marty Baker for his constant encouragement to stay pure before the Lord and also thanked Todd Sturgell and Kevin Lloyd for using their talents for the Lord’s work.
Col. Reyes will transition to Afghanistan to provide strategic command for U.S. General David Petraeus.
