School of Music Offers Music Camp

Lee University’s School of Music will be hosting its annual summer camp June 9-14, 2008. The camp is open to students entering grades 9-12 and rising college freshman. The camp will offer a variety of classes and performance opportunities led by Lee University music faculty.

This year’s program will feature three tracks: jazz, music lovers’, and college prep. The jazz track will feature an in-depth study of jazz, specialized masterclasses, studies in jazz theory and improvisation, and ensemble experience in small combos.

The music lovers’ track will feature studies in music theory and history, vocalists attend two voice classes as well as master classes, instrumentalists receive one private lesson and specialized master classes, and elective classes offered in Finale, handbells, conducting, and more.

The college prep track is available for rising juniors, seniors, and college freshmen desiring preparation for serious study in music. Participants will receive instruction in music theory, history, and ear training, and will receive two private lessons and specialized master classes. An unedited audition DVD or VHS is required, unless the applicant has previously been accepted to a school of music.

All participants will be able to participate in string, jazz, wind, voice, piano and guitar ensembles, daily devotions, praise and worship time, practice time, recreation, performances by guest artists and Lee faculty and students, and final camp performances.

Total cost to attend Summer Music Camp is $390. There is a non-refundable $25.00 registration fee, but it is applied to the camp fee. A $25.00 late fee applies after May 23rd. Please send your application early.

The fees include tuition, housing in Lee University residence halls, three meals each day, private lessons in one area of study and tickets to all concerts and master classes each week.
