Volunteers in Medical Missions Celebrates 25 Years of Service
Originally called Voluntary Interdenominational Medical Missions, the name was changed to Volunteers in Medical Missions in 1987 when the group associated with the Church of God. VIMM is a team of Christian doctors, nurses, and many other volunteers that minister to the physical and spiritual needs of children and adults in developing countries throughout the world.
Volunteers in Medical Missions (VIMM) is celebrating 25 years of service in 2011. Founded in 1986, we did our first trip to Honduras to work with Dr. Francisco Roman Cruz. Two medical clinics were built in 1986 and 1987 in Honduras. An initial gift of $50,000 from the Church of God World Missions was the foundational support of VIMM in the early years. VIMM and Church of God World Missions have been integrally connected ever since.
VIMM is a team of Christian doctors, nurses, and many other volunteers that minister to the physical and spiritual needs of children and adults in developing countries throughout the world. Each volunteer pays their way to serve the less fortunate. Many individuals have been blessed physically and spiritually. Church of God pastors and local congregations have been uplifted.
VIMM’s goals are to:
• Encourage fellowship among Christian volunteers
• Promote a Christian approach to the treatment of medical patients throughout the world
• Initiate and develop medical mission projects
• Provide medicines, supplies, and equipment to clinics in developing countries
VIMM and Church of God World Missions have much to celebrate for accomplishments over the past 25 years. Among these are:
• 245 medical mission trips
• 425,000 patients served
• 7,400 trip participants who have found a venue to serve
• 32 different countries on 5 continents
• $36 million dollars of donated supplies and services to those who could not afford such
• Seven medical clinics constructed (six associated with Church of God congregations)
