New Church of God Publication Released

January 9, 2009–The inaugural issue of ENGAGE, a journal for Church of God leaders, ministry staff and pastors, was released today in Cleveland, Tenn.

According to Church of God General Overseer Dr. Raymond Culpepper, ENGAGE is designed to be a resource to assist Church of God leaders in the unique times in which we live. The publication is a journal, which lends itself to helpful articles and resourceful features. Building on the success of Covenant Resources magazine, ENGAGE will provide more articles from a variety of authors and sources, both inside and out of the Church of God.

The inaugural issue of ENGAGE carries a theme of prayer, reflecting the first of the three-pronged emphasis over the next two years of Prayer, Great Commission and a Quest for Trust. The first issue of the journal is divided into three distinct sections: Quarterly Focus, featuring a variety of articles on prayer; Church Ministry, with articles on numerous topics; and Departments where readers will find familiar columns such as Legal Issues and Money Matters. There are also intriguing facts and trends throughout and a quarterly book review.

ENGAGE evolved from the discussion of a focus group of leaders who gathered in Cleveland last fall. This “Creative Communications Team” consisted of writers, pastors and church administrators of all age groups who spent the day in discussions with General Overseer Culpepper. What emerged after a spirited debate of what this journal should be was a vision for the launching of ENGAGE.

“If you have been a pastor in this movement for any length of time you are aware of the camaraderie and close friendships that emerge from a history and distinctive style that is uniquely Church of God,” stated Cameron Fisher, editor. “Hopefully, ENGAGE will connect with lots of people in this unique fashion.”

ENGAGE will be published quarterly through the office of the General Overseer and Church of God Communications. It will be mailed free of charge to all Church of God pastors in North America and will be sent in place of the former pastor’s edition of the Evangel.
