‘Seek God for the City’ Prayer Guide Released
In conjunction with a 40 Days of Prayer Emphasis, leaders of the the Church of God prayer initiative are offering the booklet, “Seek God for the City.”
“In the fog and frenzy of too-busy living, we hear the distant sound of your voice calling. We’ve ignored You before, and yet the deepest longing of our heart is to seek Your face. This is what we were made for: to know You by being near You. We seek You because you first sought us. We’ve seen our hearts ignite before, blazing for a moment like a match striking, then quickly fizzling out. But if you keep calling, we’ll keep coming!”
The above is a condensed version of the passionate prayer found on Day One of the 40-day prayer guide, Seek God for the City. The dates for the evangelism endeavor are Wednesday, March 9 through Sunday, April 17.
“For the first time ever, a special Church of God edition is available in cooperation with Waymakers, the producer of the popular guide and Church of God Prayer Ministries,” stated Doug Small, director of Church of God Prayer Ministries. There is no additional charge for the special edition.
Church of God General Overseer Raymond Culpepper says, “I am asking Church of God congregations around the world to pray for the harvest, for their city. Remember, the light that shines brightly abroad, shines brightest at home.” He said the Church of God Executive Committee is urging churches to participate in the 40 Days of Prayer as a denominational prayer evangelism effort.
Doug Small says the difference in the two versions is the inclusion of helpful information on unreached people groups here in the USA and special messages from Culpepper and Tim Hill, Head of the USA Missions Division. In addition, there is information about upcoming “Church Prayer Encounters,” and the Church of God prayer effort.
According to Small, almost 200,000 Christians will use this prayer guide to assist in prayer for their city. Each day, a special prayer walking suggestion is offered, and specific slice of the city is held up for prayer – families, the sick, government leaders, physically disabled, children, etc. And each day, a handful of nations are noted, and in the course of the forty days, we are led to pray around the world.
“This is by far, the most practical prayer evangelism tool produced anywhere in the world,” Small says. “And it is available virtually for pennies.” The guide retails for $3.00, but is available in quantity for as low as $1.35 per copy.
