Urgent Prayer Called For Egypt

The Church of God International Executive Committee and World Missions leadership is calling for all churches to have special prayer this Sunday, February 6 for Egypt.

“Egypt is in turmoil and facing the potential of destructive unrest,” stated Douglas LeRoy, general director of World Mission. “We are asking all churches in our denomination to set aside time for prayer to cover our 75 churches, 5,000 members, and Egypt the country in your prayers. The Church of God has been in Egypt since 1946. We also maintain a training facility, part of a previous YWEA (Youth World Evangelism Action) project. This is not a time to withdraw in fear, but a time to proclaim the hope of Christ.”

When asked about the status of the churches in Egypt, LeRoy stated, “Our churches are okay, and we have had no word of any churches damaged or members hurt.” He quoted a Church of God missionary in Egypt who said, “Our team is safe and secure. They are at home with their families. Nearly 40,000 prisoners have escaped jails and this has caused fear and looting. Our house churches and training centre are safe and are being protected by church people. We would invite you to join us in prayer and fasting for our country.”

Continue to pray for Egypt. Faith News and World Missions (www.cogwm.org) will post updates as warranted.
