Brazil Flood Relief Ongoing

Church of God Field Director for Latin America David Ramirez updates the tragic flooding in Brazil.

TERESOPOLIS, Brazil — Rescue helicopters are having trouble reaching hundreds of people stranded by flooding in Brazil.

The rain has returned in a region north of Rio de Janeiro, and the death toll has risen to more than 630 – 23 are Church of God members. Thousands more are homeless.

The mayor of Teresopolis, one of the hardest-hit cities, says 2,000-plus tents are being brought in that will provide shelter for up to 20,000 people. He also says a local business has offered land on which to set up the tents, and the city is looking at erecting modular homes.

Days of rain and mudslides have wiped out entire neighborhoods, and many residents who are still in their homes are living in danger zones.

Pray for Silvio Ribeiro, national superintendent for the Church of God in the region, as he administrates his care strategy.

David E. Ramirez
Field Director to Latin America
