Questions About Missionary Service
These are a few of the questions that have come to World Missions recently and have been answered by Assistant Director Douglas LeRoy:
Question
We have several Mexican families attending our local church. They have encouraged us to assist orphans in Mexico. How do we get a project number to do this?
Answer
You must send a written request to the Assistant Director’s office with a letter of reference from your local pastor and the local church pastor or overseer with whom you are working. You can contact the national superintendent of Mexico, Francesco Jiminez and share with him your interest. He will give you advice concerning this. (His e-mail was given.)
Question
What college or seminary degrees are required of missionaries?
Answer
This depends upon your mission work. Some ministries do not require a degree. Other ministries do. For example, if you wish to teach in one of our schools a B. A. degree is the minimum requirement. College teachers must have a Master’s degree.
Question
How do I secure a mission video to show in my church?
Answer
Contact the coordinator of communications at World Missions or go online to www.cogwm.org and order from our Web page.
Question
How many orphanages does World Missions operate? Do you set the budget for them
Answer
We are aware of at least 70 orphanages. There are probably many more. Each has its own board and staff selected locally and in compliance with national governmental regulations. World Missions is only involved where missionaries are located (in nine of these orphanages) and in sending funds given and designated by local churches.
Question
Could you explain how the World Missions funds for administration are spent?
Answer
They are spent on salaries, travel, insurance, pension, postage, publications, videos, mission conferences, legal fees, money exchange, office supplies, rental or purchasing of office equipment, bank charges, wiring fees, auditor fees, office utilities, etc.
Question
Does World Missions deduct any funds from missionaries’ money for administrative costs?
Answer
No! One hundred percent of all funds given to a missionary goes to them.
Question
How do I get a missionary to visit my church?
Answer
Contact the missionary directly or contact the Assistant Director’s office. Missionaries who are on furlough or in the States raising funds are always glad to visit local churches.
