830 County Courthouse Prayer Rallies Organized for 9/11

America is poised to commemorate the 9th anniversary of 9/11, a day of unprecedented shock and suffering in the history of the United States. On this somber day the American flag will fly at half-mast, police and firefighters from around the country will gather at the International Association of Fallen Fire Fighter’s (IAFF) Memorial in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Americans will reflect on the horrific events of this day in our history and the Awakening America Alliance (www.awakeningamerica.us) will lay a wreath at the Pentagon and launch Cry Out America from this pivotal national monument.

Cry Out America, in conjunction with the Awakening America Alliance, will hold its third annual nationwide county courthouse prayer gatherings on 9/11 with over 830 county courthouse rallies currently organized and a potential for 16 million people to participate.

Billy Wilson, Executive Director of the Awakening America Alliance said, “This year we are once again calling for believers across America to gather at their county courthouse beginning at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 11, 2010. Decisions affecting our national moral trajectory are taking place weekly in the courtroom. At these places of justice, we will bow before the true Judge of heaven and earth and plead for mercy despite our transgressions. We pray that 9/11 will once again be a day of prophetic communication as we issue a fresh wake up call to the American church and each community involved.”

In the first two years of Cry Out America the counties participating have more than doubled with at least one gathering in every state and in all 38 counties with populations over one million. Christian believers will congregate at their county courthouse from Hawaii to New York and Washington to Florida and claim this day of prayer to mark this significant day in its history with powerful prayer for every state, every county and every heart.

Holding the rallies on Sept. 11, the anniversary of the devastating 2001 Islamic terror attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, “was not an easy choice,” said Wilson. “There are many emotions around it. The attack was a physical wakeup call for the U.S. entering the 21st century, and it was one of the greatest days of prayer in American history. It is a good day to say to America, ‘We need God’s help.'”
Dr. Bob Bakke, US Producer of the Global Day of Prayer, Director of the National Prayer Advance, and an executive director of the Evangelical Free Church of America, stated that “in light of the urgent needs in the heart of Americans and their churches — urban and suburban, rich and poor, young and old – the Awakening America Alliance (AAA) is pursuing what is vital and doing it the right way: commitment to Christ; united prayer across denominational, historical and demographic boundaries; authentic collaboration; clear, measurable goals; and events that foster movements toward a spiritual awakening. I canʼt think of anything more important,” he concluded.

The Awakening America Alliance was formed as an initiative with a broad coalition of nationally prominent Christian denominations, churches, para-church ministries, as well as Christian leaders and lay people from every walk of life. The purpose of the Alliance is to increase the awareness of the deep spiritual need in America and to pursue a fresh spiritual awakening that will impact the world.
