Walker Awarded ‘Leadership Legacy’
Former Church of God General Overseer Dr. Paul L. Walker was honored at the Church of God General Assembly with the establishment of the Paul L. Walker Leadership Legacy, a recognition which promises to have a significant impact on future generations of pastors.
Walker, and his wife, Carmelita, were surprised on stage with the presentation Wednesday, July 28 of the Assembly. Dr. James O. Davis, founder of Cutting Edge International and co-founder of the Billion Souls Network, made the presentation just prior to the morning session of the General Council. According to Davis, Walker is “in a long line of prestigious men who cast vision beyond their life span.”
In speaking of his good friends, Paul and Carmelita Walker, Davis told the General Council, “They (Walkers) are great people who don’t know they’re great. They just want to do great things….the closer you get to a masterpiece the more beauty you admire…you are a leader’s leader, and a preacher’s preacher. We want to honor you for all that you have done and all that you are going to do in raising up the next generation of pastors and preachers.”
A proclamation, which was posted on the screen during the presentation said, On behalf of the Church of God worldwide and the global church we commence the Dr. Paul L. Walker Leadership Legacy to equip five million pastors on July 28, 2010 at this 73rd General Assembly Orlando, Florida.
Davis explained the presentation is three fold: 1) Recognition – to recognize Dr. Paul L. Walker at the 73rd General Assembly, bringing focus to who he is and the transference of what God has given him to the next generation; 2) Resources – to gather all the sermons of Walker through books, articles and video tapes of the great wisdom lessons he has learned; and 3) Release – materials will be eternalized and made available on the Internet on two sites: plwalker.com and billion.tv.
Paul Walker’s resources will be made available to pastors and Christians everywhere to help double the size of the church worldwide.
“In the global church there are more than 1 billion Christians—four percent in North America and 96% around the globe,” Davis stated. “There are also more than 5 million pastors in the global church. In the Billion Soul Network more than 400,000 churches from 1,000 denominations and organizations are synergizing efforts together to double the size of the church to finish the Great Commission in this century.”
“I have never known the meaning of flabbergasted until just now,” Walker stated as he addressed the body following the presentation. “I am grateful to God for the opportunity to work in partnership with you and our brothers and sisters around the world.”
