General Assembly: Looking Toward 2012

With the close of the 73rd International General Assembly of the Church of God last week, plans are already underway for the 74th in 2012.

The General Assembly in 2012 – GA2012 – will again be held at the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) in Orlando. The dates have been set for July 24-27, 2012 and will follow a similar schedule of general council and worship services.

The south concourse of the OCCC proved to be a successful venue with the close proximity of business and worship sessions in hall A and the exhibit area staged in adjoining hall B. The location will be improved further in 2012 as the Peabody Orlando hotel will have completed their multi-million dollar expansion increasing the number of rooms and convention space for GA2012 events if needed. It will also allow for a closer inside walk to the OCCC for the guests of that hotel.

“Holding the General Assembly in Orlando at the Orange County Convention Center worked very well,” stated Scot Carter, director of the General Assembly. “The crowds were some of the largest we have had many years with an average of 13,800 each night. Holding an Assembly two years in a row in the same facility allows us (Church of God) to negotiate a more favorable contract and gives us the hindsight to tweak items to make it the best experience possible for everyone who attends.”
