Longest-Serving Chaplain Passes Away
Chaplain Annie Perry, Griffin, Georgia, passed away on September 3, 2008, and at that time, was the most senior chaplain endorsed by the Chaplains Commission.
Chaplain Perry was widely known and highly respected in Georgia for her tireless ministry to the incarcerated in Spalding and Lamar counties. In addition to her ministry in the county jails, she also served at the Regional Youth Detention Center in Griffin, the Spalding County Sheriff’s Department, the Spalding County Diversion Center health clinic, and area nursing homes.
Of her ministry in the county jails, Chaplain Perry said, “I feel so in God’s will behind bars … and I know that not many people have a burden for that type of ministry.” She went on to say, “I just want to bless the world. It thrills me to reach out and give … and to be ready when Jesus comes.”
Chaplain Perry was one of the Commissions most beloved chaplains – always caring for others – faithful and dedicated to the end – taking the love and caregiving message of Jesus to the hurting and forgotten of society. She will be missed by so very many.
Sister Perry’s husband, Arthur, preceded her in death. They had celebrated 54 years of marriage and had seven children.
