Lee University Homecoming Scheduled for November 7-8
In a few days, Lee alumni and friends will gather together at Lee’s 2008 Homecoming weekend to remember and celebrate their Lee experience and the new additions to the campus. Homecoming 2008 is scheduled for the weekend of November 7-8. A number of new events are planned for this year’s celebration including a production of Euripides’ “Trojan Women” and a several new reunions.
The graduating classes of 1968, ’78, ’88, and ’98 can come together on Friday evening for a time of reconnection with friends and classmates. A special Legacy Reunion is also scheduled for Friday evening for alumni from the graduating classes of 1918-1965.
One of the new events, the Young Alumni Torch Society Networking Reception will be held on Friday Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. in the Paul Conn Student Union. This reception is for alumni who have graduated in the last seven years. The reception is complimentary for all Torch Society members who have given a gift to the Alumni Fund for two consecutive years. The Student Leadership Council will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Mayfield Annex Library. All former members are invited to share in celebrating SLC achievements and connecting with old friends. Complimentary refreshments will be served. The Flames and Lady Flames soccer reunion will be held on Friday evening as well. All past and present soccer players and coaches are invited to the reunion at 9 p.m. in the Centenary Room. The weekend will also include exciting matches for the players and coaches such as the SSAC first round tournament and alumni matches.
On Saturday, Nov. 8 the day will begin with an alumni service project. Both visiting alumni and current students are welcome to participate in serving the Cleveland community through volunteering at feeding programs, nursing homes, or other local ministries and organizations. Also on Saturday, a special dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new $5 million School of Religion will take place. Everyone is invited for the historic moment, especially those who have attended Lee as religion majors in years past.
Wrapping up Homecoming weekend are the music festival and a production of “Trojan Women” on Saturday evening. The music festival will feature both instrumental and vocal music. The Evangelistic Singers 40th Anniversary Reunion Choir will also perform. The festival will be held in the Conn Canter at 7 p.m.
The Communication and the Arts Department will present Euripides’ classic play “Trojan Women” in the Dixon Center Auditorium on Nov. 6, 7, and 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. The story tells of the devastation caused by the Trojan War and the fortitude of the spirit exhibited by the women of Troy in the midst of tragedy.
