Spiritual Warfare on the College Campus

Bold Church of God students and leaders are taking a stand for the truth on college campuses across the nation. Alpha Omega Campus Ministries recently provided examples of how God is opening doors for witness amid opposition.

An unusual tide of spiritual warfare has surfaced on the campus of the University of Texas in San Antonio. Johnny Ortiz, a Church of God campus Alpha Omega leader there recently sent an email which told of the challenges to Christian students there. Fox News ran the story the week of March 1 concerning a group of atheist students who set up a booth offering a free porn DVD if a student would turn in their Bible or other spiritual literature. The news story showed the table full of Bibles where students had turned them in. Ortiz reports his group has just completed an extended fast and will be setting up a booth this week that will encourage students to stand for the Truth and the Bible. They expect strong opposition, but are ready for the challenge. They asked for the prayers of all the church to intercede for them during this time.

“While this is a very unique situation, challenges of this type are a regular part of college campus life,” stated John Unthank, director of Alpha Omega Church of God Campus Ministries. “On every campus there is a challenge to the Truth and our faith. Our students are bombarded day after day in their classrooms concerning their beliefs and their validity. It is encouraging to know that our Alpha Omega campus ministry groups are active on as many as 81 campuses now to be the salt and light in a place of darkness. Our campus ministry leaders and students everywhere need our prayers and support. They are on the front lines, but they are strong and full of the Spirit.”
