Churches Facing Crisis from Snowfall

Record-breaking snowfall is crippling the Church of God in Delmarva-DC and surrounding states.

Special prayer has been requested in the ongoing effort to dig out from back-to-back snow events over the last few weeks.
Regional offices for the Delmarva region are located between Baltimore and Washington, near Columbia, Md., one of the hardest hit areas of the blizzards. Churches all across the states of Maryland and Delaware, as well as Washington, D.C. have been inundated, as well as several surrounding states such as Virginia and West Virginia.

“Please be in special prayer for our brothers and sisters of the Church of God in the Delmarva-DC region,” stated Ron Martin, administrative bishop. “They are endeavoring to cope with the extenuating circumstances of the largest blizzard and total snowfall accumulations in more than 100 years.” Martin went on to say that three out of the past eight weekends, more than 95% of the churches in the region have been closed due to unusually heavy snow. Some areas have experienced more than eight feet of snow during the past eight weeks. Bishop Martin states that reports are beginning to come in of property damages, and assessments from those damages will be forthcoming.

“The region has already been heavily impacted by the recent decline in economy and has now sustained yet uncalculated financial implications from the severe weather in addition to property damages.”
