Lee Students Help Fund Bahamian School
Lee University recently hosted its annual Missions Week, a time of events, guest speakers, and exhibits that are promoting awareness and raising funds for the Church of God Academy in Nassau, Bahamas.
The Nassau school has been forced to cut back due to the lack of funding. They are overcrowded and in need of supplies. With the World Missions Centennial taking place in the Bahamas, Lee University found it fitting to reach out to the very first mission field.
The week of events will included Tuesday’s celebration service with the Lee Singer’s joining in song and a special dance from a Lee student from the Bahamas. Towards the end of the service Lee announced next year’s Lee Missions Week project by having a group of students from Nigeria come together in dance to celebrate the work happening in that area.
Visiting Education Director and Principal of the Church of God Academy in the Bahamas, David Savage, a former Lee student, ministered during the Thursday chapel service. He spoke about how during our lives – “God gives us a recipe for life to follow.” He shared how God is a missional God and that we must imitate His life. After all of the ingredients are putting into our life, we become the rare ingredient in the lives of others.
These activities are just a small part of the larger effort by the Lee University community to aid the Academy in the Bahamas. This year’s theme is “Building Schools, Building Children, Building Dreams”.
In addition to raising money, Lee has planned a trip in January to visit Nassau, Bahamas. While there, the group will be working with a school as well as doing community and orphanage outreach. There will be a great deal of cultural immersion and interaction with the Bahamian people.
The Lazarus Foundation has designated this project for matching funds. Churches and individuals are invited to join with the Lee University family to invest in solid, Christ-centered education for the Bahamian people.
