New Events Through Medical Missions
Medical missionaries in Europe share about new events through medical missions and how they are reaching the community.
Recently, FMBS organized and coordinated a sports activity with the children of the Chefchaoen orphanage that took place at the soccer field close to the Atlas Hotel. Nine representatives from the Soccer Ambassadors Team coordinated with FMBS and came to the city. This group of young athletes taught soccer techniques, training, and at the end, organized a match, working with small groups, showing them the significance of sports and good habits.
Upon the end of the event, each young person that participated was given a souvenir of the sports activity.
The idea is to continue working on other activities with this group of athletes. Thirty-three kids participated, 15 from the orphanage and the rest were young people from town who signed up.
Special Projects
In April 2009, in response to a request from the Chefchaoen Social Services Department, the FMBS helped a young man, aged 19 years old, to find prosthesis for his left leg which had been amputated due to a smooth tissue tumor.
Doctor Luis Escalera from the FMBS was in charge of making all the arrangements for this case at the Orthopedics Regional Center of the Tetuan Hospital. The cost of the prosthesis, plus other expenses related to this process, was 2280 dirhams ($299), covered totally by the FMBS.
Preventive Health Education Workshops
We recently had a conference with the theme of “The Environment and Health” at two schools of Chechaouen, in cooperation of the local ECEPCE Association. The first school visited was in Aznath, with a total of 47 children.
After that, we repeated the conference in Ahzaib, a town an hour and a half away from Chefchaouen; 64 students attended to this conference. Dr. Luis Escalera from FMBS coordinated these events with the assistance of translator Nadja Herrera, his usual collaborator.
