New Effort to Undermine Marriage Doomed

A Michigan state representative is introducing a bill to overturn the state’s ban on homosexual “marriage.”

Gary Glenn, president of the American Family Association of Michigan, believes State Rep. Pam Byrnes’ move “makes for good political theatre and probably little else.” He also tells OneNewsNow about a prominent Democratic consultant and pollster who released a new poll in September “which found that 90 percent of Republicans, 60 percent of Independents, and half of all Democrats in Michigan would vote against a ballot proposal trying to overturn and repeal Michigan’s marriage protection amendment”

Glenn feels that past evidence provides more reason to reject the notion of overturning traditional marriage.

“Polls [conducted] back when it was passed in 2004 found that two-thirds of African-Americans and two-thirds of union households, mainstays of the Democratic Party’s coalition, were in favor of constitutionally protecting marriage between one man and one woman,” he reports.

Five years ago, Michigan residents voted 59 percent to 41 percent in favor of traditional marriage. Glenn does not believe the proposal to overturn it will even come to a vote in the House.
