‘Fireproof’ Still Hot In Third Weekend

“Fireproof” had another solid showing in its third weekend, finishing in the top 5 on a per-theater average and passing the $16 million mark for total gross.
On the strength of its opening in 59 additional cities, Fireproof averaged $3,590 to finish No. 5 in that category. For the weekend, Fireproof grossed $3,140,997 to finish No. 10 in three-day gross.
Perhaps most impressively, Fireproof lost only 21.2 percent in gross from its previous weekend, which is quite unusual. Typically, movies lose anywhere from 35 to 50 percent in each successive weekend after their release.
In three weekends, Fireproof has far surpassed the total gross of “Facing the Giants,” which was made by the same company — Sherwood Pictures, owned by Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany Ga. — and ended up grossing just over $10 million in 2006.

The movie stars Kirk Cameron and Erin Bethea and tells the story of how a firefighter captain works to save his failing marriage. It has received high marks from moviegoers and remains the top fan-rated film at the movie-ticket website Fandango.com. Over at BoxOfficeMojo.com — another popular movie website — 76 percent of moviegoers gave it an “A.”
