Faith of Our Fathers Features Church Leaders

Pathway Press has released a new book which showcases the lives of well-known Church of God leaders from the perspectives of those closest to them…their children.

Faith of Our Fathers is a view of fathers through the eyes of sons and daughters. Each story is personal and subjective, giving little-known views of well-known fathers.

Some of the most respected leaders of the Church of God share fascinating snapshots of the life and culture of the church during an exceptional period—following the Second World War and in the closing decades of the 20th century.

“These narratives provide historic insight to the cultural and ecclesiastical background of the Church of God during one of the most important eras of an emerging denomination,” stated Dr. Donald Aultman, Chancellor of the Church of God Division of Education who co-edited the work with Dr. Steve Land, president of the Pentecostal Theological Seminary.

When the coeditors decided to collaborate on this book, the immediate problem was the number of father-son and father-daughter accounts potentially available. The participating authors present only a small sample of stories from the community of faith called the Church of God.

“The authors (sons and daughters) who took time from extremely busy schedules to share their stories have made a substantial, inspiring gift to all of us—and to me personally,” Aultman continued. I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with them. When the manuscripts began to arrive, I sensed that important, largely unknown personal stories were being shared—new views of exceptional fathers. I read the accounts with wonder, tears, laughter, and a renewed love for the church and my colleagues.”

“I began to think about a book like this not long after the homegoing of my dad,” Land stated. “We (Aultman) soon realized that there were mere scores, if not hundreds, of stories which could be included; and, therefore, that we would have to choose a few representative ones. The faith of the fathers in this book was not centered on them and their interests. It was centered instead on Jesus Christ. They didn’t debate His divinity and humanity. Rather, they confessed a Christ who saved, sanctified, healed, and filled them with the Holy Spirit.

The faithfulness, perseverance, and hard work of these fathers shine through in each biographical vignette. They endured financial privation, cultural opposition, and spiritual warfare while giving sacrificially and rejoicing in a fellowship of saints on the way to heaven.”
