A Breakthrough

SCOTLAND – Missionaries Dennis and Vanna Tanner share about the struggles they have been facing in Scotland and the recent breakthrough they had with the church members there.

We recently had the breakthrough, for which we have been praying, here in Scotland. Along with the duties of overseer for Scotland, Dennis and I have taken the pastorate of one of our churches. Believe it or not, Scotland is a very dark place spiritually. We are also serving as the youth pastor and have been so concerned; our youth and many of the parents seem to have no desire to know God personally, or even learn about what the Holy Spirit might want to do in their lives.

Dennis invited a pastor and his youth team from the island of Stornoway, to come and do a youth outreach here with our kids and in the town. We held service on a Friday night and on Saturday we went out to the public parks and did drama, dance, music and handed out invitations to our service on Saturday night and Sunday morning. Many of our kids did not even want to be associated with the group for fear that their friends would see them; they didn’t want to be known as going to church, much less as Christians. I was so mad at the devil yesterday, but praise God he is defeated.

The Breakthrough

This morning I had to go to one of our other churches and help there, as the pastor is out of town. When I returned to our church I expected everyone to be gone, but when I pulled into the parking lot, all the cars were still there. I walked into the church only to see 100 percent of our youth in the altars, many of them lying on the floor seeking God. Dennis quickly told me that after the message the Holy Spirit began to deal with some of the adults and the kids then followed. To say that God rocked the house would be an understatement.

That night we went to another one of our churches about an hour away for the visiting group to minister, and you guessed it: the youth and half the parents drove down as well because they “just want to be in church!”

Our Request

Here is my request. We are currently basking in the glory of God and these kids feel like nothing can touch them. However, the next days will be when the rubber meets the road. The youth will have to make choices when they see their friends. Please pray with Dennis and me that the enemy will be defeated in coming against these kids and telling them that what happened doesn’t matter. Join with us in defeating the devil in the name of Jesus.
