Lee University To Offer New Class

Lee University’s Center for Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS) will be introducing a new course entitled Church and The Law this coming fall semester.

Church and The Law, instructed by Joseph Byrd, Ph.D., J.D., will focus on issues that the church ministry must face, ranging from tax issues to ministerial confidentiality.

“Today, churches have to navigate a minefield of potential legal challenges that could keep them from their primary mission. This course begins to provide tools to address some of those challenges so that churches can effectively carry out their ministries,” said Director of the Center for Adult and Professional Studies Dr. Ben Perez.

The course will meet once a month, all day, on the following Fridays: Aug. 28, Sept. 18, Oct. 23, and Dec. 4 on the Lee campus, in Watkins Building room 102.

Dr. Byrd currently serves as the county attorney for Bradley County. He has a diverse legal background and has also been involved with various church ministries in Michigan, Tennessee, and Florida.
