A recent Chaplains training class in Cleveland, Tenn.During the month of August, the Church of God Chaplains Commission will be offering two Community Service Chaplaincy Basic Training Seminars plus a Specialized Law Enforcement Chaplaincy Training Seminar in the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. The King George Church of God in King George, Virginia, will be the host site for the first two training seminars … August 13-15. They will host both the Basic Community Service Chaplaincy training seminar and the Specialized Law Enforcement Chaplaincy training seminar. These two seminars are separate courses, taught over the same three-day time period. The King George point-of-contact person is Chaplain Rhonda Hall at 804-313-7569. The church phone number is 540-775-2690. Pastor Lance Matthew Bacon is the senior pastor of the King George Church of God.

The Centreville Community Church of God will host the Community Service Chaplaincy Basic Training Seminar on August 27-29. Southern is the senior pastor of the Centreville Community Church of God.

The CSC Basic Seminar is the chaplaincy training course that has been offered over the past 15 years and attended by more than 7,000 pastors, ministers, and church workers. It is designed for practical ministry outside the church in the local community – in hospitals, jails and prisons, law enforcement agencies, nursing homes, hospice associations, rescue missions, and countless other settings.

It is a full three days of training – it is like going to school – the goal is to train and equip. Topics include: the history and theology of chaplaincy, ethics, prayer in the public forum, grief counseling, suicide, Critical Incident Stress, confidentiality, death notifications, clergy/client privilege, sensitivity and diversity, legal issues, profile of emergency services workers, women in chaplaincy, and many other relevant subjects. A comprehensive Chaplain’s Manual is the text book for the course and provides an outstanding resource to use in you chaplaincy service. The training course on Law Enforcement chaplaincy will sharply focus on the ministry of serving the men and women of our police and sheriff’s departments and the many unique aspects of this much needed ministry to those who protect and serve the citizens of our communities.

There is a biblical mandate to go out “beyond the gates” of the church to reach a lost and hurting world with the caregiving message of Jesus Christ. Chaplaincy training prepares you to meet the challenge of ministry outside the church … out where the people are.
