Books to Schools Around the World

Recently, in two rooms at Pathway Press in Cleveland, Tennessee, there was a ceremony of dedication for a new project: “Books to Schools Around the World” and a celebration of the first shipment of eight boxes.

These went to the Pentecostal Theological Institute, the Church of God’s seminary in Bucharest, Romania. The celebration was attended by Reverend Joseph A. Mirkovich, general director of the Church of God Publishing House, Reverend Douglas LeRoy, general director of World Missions, and the volunteer staff, consisting of Dr. James M. Beaty, Charlton and Paulette Lewis, Jim Taylor and others. The two rooms that formerly housed the internal library for the Publishing House have now been made available to World Missions for this project. Here the books are received, sorted, inventoried and packed for shipping. The inventory list is sent to a target school by e-mail and they mark books that they already have and any that are needed. This saves in two ways: (1) the cost of shipping and (2) the books are available where they are needed.

The books needed are those that would be beneficial for the training of ministers in our schools around the world. This includes biblical studies, theological studies, church history and studies on the ministry of the church and related items. We also send books to strengthen their Pentecostal collection, both history and teaching.

Today, English is what Latin was in the middle ages. Even where English is not the spoken language of the country, most of the teachers and some of the students can read enough English to receive benefit.

This project grew out of a ministry of Dr. James M. Beaty, who has been sending books for several years. Now volunteers are being recruited to help do everything except the academic sorting. Faculty from Lee University and the Church of God Seminary will be requested to help in this area.

There is a golden opportunity to provide resources for the training of ministry around the world. Every school operated by World Missions depends on books and needs a more adequate library. You can reach around the world by donating books that are appropriate for use in the libraries of our Bible schools and seminaries around the world.

Some donors have asked that we take what they have and dispose of what is not needed in a proper way. We make that commitment. Those who would like to donate books may contact James M. Beaty (ljamesmbeaty@bellsouth.net Your browser may not support display of this image.). Books may also be brought to the shipping dock of the Publishing House in Cleveland, Tennessee.

James M. Beaty is a retired missionary and educator.
