Psalms 91 Bandana Ministers to Family

The Chaplains Commission has made available tens of thousands of camouflage bandanas, with the Psalms 91 scripture written on each one, to Church of God Chaplains and their ministry to the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. The following testimony by Alexis McClellan, Louisville, KY, about the power of God’s witness through this bandana ministry and how it affected her military son and her family, was received at the Chaplains Commission last week. It is a powerful witness of ministry “outside the gates” and how the little things we do become so awesome in the Hands of our Creator God. “…I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these…you did for me.”

“My son was sent to Iraq late summer of 2006. He was there until fall of 2007. He was part of the 25th ID out of Hawaii. They were one of the first groups to be held longer that the customary 12 month tour! I must say this was the longest almost 15 months in his life as well as in my life. I prayed just about all day everyday for him and had several groups sending up prayers also. I was given a handkerchief/neckerchief, when he left that had the 91st Psalm printed on it. I recited that Psalm every day. It brought such comfort to me because I knew the inventor of that Psalm was watching over my boy! As the days passed and I had chances to talk with him, I learned more and more of the power of prayer! He had many close calls over there and lost several good friends in conflicts that could have just as easily taken his life as not! I totally give my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ the credit for my son coming home alive and not a scratch on him! (He is in the Infantry!)

He and his family are back in the United States mainland now and he seems to be doing fantastic; no indications of Post Traumatic Stress at all! This, I also credit to the power of God and his goodness! I am one blessed mother and I will never be able to thank the Lord enough for watching over my son in those times of peril!

Your e-mail address was on the corner of that kerchief I was given and I thought you would like to hear how it helped one mother, one son, one wife and two little boys get through the worst time of their lives so far! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For giving these kerchiefs out! For me and mine it was a Godsend! I have ALWAYS believed in prayer and in Guardian Angels, but this experience has definitely set in concrete that belief!!!!! God bless all of the Chaplains in the military, especially those in the war torn cities of today. May He watch over them as He did my son!”
