Christian Party Selects ‘Woman of the Year’
SCOTLAND — With the cares and concerns of her communities at heart, Church of God Missionary Sheila McLaughlan was recently voted in as woman of the year for the Christian Party in the United Kingdom.
The Christian party throughout the United Kingdom has many courageous people willing to make a stand for their faith. They are actively bringing the Christian message of love and justice to the centre of our communities in a very real and practical way.
At the heart of the Christian party message is that ‘Christ is Lord’ of every realm of life. Whether it is family, business or politics, the Bible has an answer that directly addresses the challenges our society faces in these turbulent times. Sheila McLaughlan holds the cares and concerns of her communities at heart.
Dr Sheila McLaughlan lives in Scorguie. She has been in Inverness, Scotland, for 30 years where she brought up five children, many foster children, and is a happy grandmother of 13 grandchildren! Not surprisingly, Sheila has a lot of experience with troubled teenagers and she helps many of them with their court appearances.
Having first hand experience of the need for role models for young people, she seeks to work in the Council to bridge the gap between children leaving care and developing independence and maturity, which will benefit them and the community in which they live.
Sheila is also a prison counselor and has been a welfare adviser with the police. Sheila works with bereaved families, divorcees, and depressed and suicidal people. She is also concerned for the loneliness, uncertainty and fears of senior citizens.
A frequent guest speaker at various functions, Sheila says: “Living in Scorguie I share the concerns of local people in my ward. After a lifetime of helping people, I am keen to use this experience to serve others to the very best of my capacity.”
