Prayers for Those in Path of Hurricane Sally and West Coast Fires

Cleveland, TN: Dr. Timothy M. Hill, General Overseer of the Church of God, issued the following statement, calling for prayer for those in the path of Hurricane Sally and those facing the wildfires on the West Coast.

“We are in the midst of another hurricane season and Hurricane Sally is bearing down on the Gulf Coast states, especially the coastal areas of Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi. While this storm does not have the winds associated with some of the larger storms in the past few years, it is expected to be at least a Category 1 hurricane by the time it makes landfall in the next 24 hours or so. The greatest concern is that the storm contains massive amounts of rainfall and storm surges of up to 11 feet are expected.

In addition, the wildfires in California, Oregon, and Washington have brought countless damage and devastation. At least 35 deaths have already been caused by the fires and weather conditions are not scheduled to improve any time soon, with more wind likely to spread the fires in the coming days.

With a strong Church of God presence along the Gulf coastal area facing the hurricane, as well as along the West Coast facing fires, we need to be in prayer for our church family that will be impacted, as well as millions more who will be dealing with the after effects of these disasters for weeks and months to come.

As with every destructive natural event, the Church of God will be on-site to provide help as quickly as the authorities allow us into the affected areas. Operation Compassion, God‘s Pit Crew, Men and Women of Action, and our other disaster relief efforts are already positioning supplies and volunteers to assist as needed.

While your contributions are necessary, prayers for those impacted are most needed. Please pray for God‘s protection and provision for those along the Gulf Coast area, as well as all along the West Coast.”
