Website Addresses 2020 General Assembly

Cleveland, TN—With the decision earlier this week to postpone the 78th Church of God International General Assembly to 2022, the former website ga20.org, which was dedicated to promotion and information of the biennial event, has been converted to a Q&A and update site.

The International Executive Council met in a Zoom conference on Monday, April 20, 2020 where the Church of God’s highest body of leaders took the unprecedented action of postponing the 2020 Assembly, which had been scheduled for July 21-24 in Indianapolis, Ind. The move came due to the worldwide fallout associated with the coronavirus pandemic and after multiplied hours of debate and discussion between a task force and the Council. It has been more than a century since the Church of God postponed an Assembly, which was in 1918 due to the Spanish flu epidemic. During the war years and amidst a 1941 polio outbreak, the Church reduced the size of the gatherings, but did not postpone.

With the decision arises multiple questions, including the process for delegates already registered, hotel reservations and general questions regarding progress toward a 2022 General Assembly. The site debuted on April 21 with a dozen Q&As posted and a special message from General Overseer Tim Hill regarding the decision.

The site will be regularly updated over the next several weeks with items pertaining to progress toward the 78th General Assembly in 2022. The site is also located at the denomination’s website, churchofgod.org.
