Care Ministries Board Visits SMCH

Sevierville, TN–For the first time in a number of years, the Church of God Division of Care Board of Directors met on the Sevierville property of the Smoky Mountain Children’s Home (SMCH) to discuss ongoing ministries of the division.
Usually the group convenes in Cleveland, Tennessee, so it was a special occasion for the staff of SMCH to host the group on Tuesday, April 9. The meeting was planned by Bishop Mitchell Corder, Executive Administrator for the Division of Care. Others who assisted in coordinating the day’s activities included Anita Hughes, Tammie Mauldin and Dr. Pamela Kay Overbey.
Most of the meetings were held in the SMCH board room, and a luncheon was provided in the Edna Shultz memories room. Tours of the Iris B. Vest SpiritCare Center took place, and the day ended with a visit to several of the SMCH’s buildings, which included the Moffett Dining Hall, Tennessee’s cottage #3, the administration building, as well as the newest cottage, #12.
Many of the board members had never visited The Home, so this was a unique opportunity for them to experience the ministries firsthand. Several of the board members were in tears as they heard stories shared about specific children and youth. God is still at work changing lives in the 99 year-old ministry.

Appreciation was expressed to each board member for taking time out of their schedules to visit.
