Morris Appointed ASCM Interim President

Church of God World Missions leadership and the World Missions board recently appointed Dr. Marc A. Morris as interim president of the Asian Seminary of Christian Ministries (ASCM). Morris, who had already been serving as chairman of the board since July 2017, was appointed to serve in this new role until the 2020 Church of God International General Assembly.

According to World Missions General Director Dr. David M. Griffis, Morris’ appointment as ASCM interim president is, “specifically intended to help guide the school through its transition from Metro Manila to a new improved site outside the city, while working to revamp its programs and services to meet today’s needs and demands.” World Missions Assistant Director M. Thomas Propes states, “With more than three decades of experience in the Philippines and Asia, we believe Dr. Morris’ ministry skill set will help serve ASCM well during this important timeline.”

“As our flagship higher education institution in Asia Pacific, ASCM plays a vital role in equipping and training young men and women for ministry, as well as providing personal enrichment for pastors and leaders,” said Asia Pacific Field Director Andrew Binda. “I sincerely appreciate the work Dr. Morris is already doing at ASCM and we are excited how a new campus is going to help ASCM open new doors of ministry for us in all of Asia.”

In reference to the new role, Morris says, “ASCM is a very special institution with a wonderful history. I feel very honored to be asked to lead and help prepare the school to be better positioned to impact all of Asia. As we acquire and develop a new campus, we will also be strengthening ASCM’s operational structure and strategy. Creating compatibility, of ASCM’s higher education system with grassroots ministry worker needs and opportunities, is a key objective. We will prioritize adding capacity to complement the great work our national leadership teams are doing.” Morris went on to say, “We will be building bridges of partnership with stakeholders and interested friends of ASCM. We need the participation of a lot of people – church leaders and laity from many nations. It will take a global church family partnership make a positive difference in Asia via ASCM.”

Morris is a member of the COGWM board, concurrently serving the Church of God as Superintendent of the Austral Asia region and Director of WEAC Asia.
