Project Pray to Release Resources in 2019

Church of God Prayer Ministries, in an effort to help pastors and congregations who desired to bring prayer more fully to the heart of all they were doing, created, “The Praying Church Movement.” The movement quietly spread to congregations in other movements.

In the coming year, under the banner of Project Pray, Prayer Ministries Coordinator P. Douglas Small is renewing efforts to assist congregations in making prayer and dependence on God, central to congregational and daily life. The ministry will release some ten resources monthly for churches who sign-up at the Premier Resources level. There is also a complimentary subscription. Small wants every congregation in the denomination to make the determination to make their church “a house of prayer” for the nations.

“Our praying is often too self-interested,” Small says. “We are overrun with prayer requests, sadly asking others to do our praying for us, with far too little missional prayer, prayer for the lost in our own families. Our eyes are too dry. The sound of lament for a broken world is too rarely heard in our churches.”

The Praying Church Movement, Small says, is a network of pastors and prayer leaders who are on a journey to bring prayer to the heart of all they do. Its purpose is to encourage, challenge, inspire, and resource believers and connect them with something bigger than themselves, such as, national initiatives, the Prayer Trainers Program, and the Prayerborne – an Intercessor’s Alliance.

By joining the movement, prayer leaders and pastors declare their desire for assistance and have access to a wide range of support and training materials, some free, distributed electronically or through media, and others for a subscription contribution, plus access to a wide array of printed materials at a discounted rate. Each month, a teaching resource is released, as is a training resource for developing a prayer team. In addition, some prayer idea or tool is reviewed, and, a Facebook live event allows for questions and answers. The resources include videos, PowerPoint, and PDFs.

There are three levels of membership in the Praying Church Movement, each with intensifying access to resources. The most effective and intense level is the Premier Membership at the rate of $150 annually. Districts and states can take advantage of a group subscription and doing so, get resources to meet together quarterly, for ongoing training in the area of prayer and prayer ministries leadership.

“The resources offered are carefully constructed on the basis of ‘the Seven Markers of a Praying Church’ which pervades all the Project Pray materials,” Small concluded. “The aim cannot be merely the addition of prayer activities, but the goal of creating a ‘culture’ of prayer and dependence on God with a missional focus.”
