Organization Calls Corporate Fast
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – A national, corporate fast, 21 DAYS for A NEW AWAKENING which began January 1, 2009 will cover the last days of President Bush’s administration and usher in the inauguration of President Elect Obama and his first full day in office, a crucial time in our country and in history.
Executive Chairman for Awakening America Alliance, Billy Wilson said, “Rome was the greatest nation in the world. This vast empire’s language, culture, politics, and thought affected generations. It formed the geo-political force surrounding the birth, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Yet, Rome with all of its greatness collapsed. Why? What happened? How could an empire spanning over two million square miles fail?”
America has been and continues to be the world power of our generation. Yet, the influence of our financial, political, and moral authority is in decline as evidenced in daily news across the world.
In his classic study The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire, Edward Gibbon gave at least five internal causes as to why Rome fell: rapid increase of divorce, spiraling taxes and government spending, a craze for pleasure and brutality, failure to see the moral erosion as an enemy and the decay of religion leaving people without guidance.
“The American church needs deep, transformational change so that we can affect our nation for Christ. Fasting changes us and positions us to change the world. Awakening America’s ’21 Days for Awakening’ is calling on Christians across America to dedicate 2009 to the Lord. It’s a fast of contrition and repentance and humility,” said Wilson, noting thousands have already committed to participate.
Since Wilson announced the 21-day fast many denominational leaders have called on their entire constituencies to fast. “We feel it’s like a ‘first fruits’ principle, as with giving and tithing, we’re dedicating this new year to the Lord,” he said. “We wanted to push our plates back. It’s sacrificial. We’re saying to heaven: ‘We want this year to be different in America.'”

Jentezen Franklin, Sr. Pastor of the 11,500-person Free Chapel church in Gainesville, GA and Irvine, CA and author of best seller, Fasting, said, “You have to wonder what blessings aren’t being released… what answers to prayer are not getting through… what bondages are not being broken… because we fail to fast. The Son of God fasted because He knew there were supernatural things that could only be released that way. How much more should fasting be common practice in our lives?”
Rick Joyner, founder of MorningStar Ministries, said he’s excited to hear that Wilson is intent on motivating the American church to fast at the New Year. “I think the next few years will be some of the most intense, but potentially fruitful the church in America has had in a very long time,” said Joyner.
