Advancing Missions Through Education

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV).

Noted missionary and educator, the late Bill George, wrote in Until All Have Heard: “It is well known to the people familiar with the missions fields of the denomination that those nations that have the strongest schools and the largest percentage of people who have attended them are the places where most people have been converted and added to the Church.” He further states: “Biblical and theological training hone the gifts God has given and equip pastors and other church leaders for their tasks.”

Across the globe on foreign soil, Church of God World Missions oversees 112 educational facilities. It is evident having an education opens doors to opportunities heretofore limited to the church. Leadership understands to be an educated “witness” has great possibilities; to have a voice on the global venue meant being credible, and the message of Christ could be shared only if people were willing to listen.

Noted individuals such as Dr. James Beaty established institutions in the areas they earlier served, and to this day, many of those educational facilities are still thriving and producing qualified leaders to the nations. Other individuals have mentored, taught in classrooms, and participated in fund-raising for scholarships for students who do not have the means to pursue an education.

World Missions is thankful for the long history, meaningful advances in school sites and those who serve to lift high the torch of the Gospel.
