Thompson Named Director of Men and Women of Action

Phil Thompson was recently named the new director of Men and Women of Action (MWOA), an independent benevolent organization with roots in the Church of God. Thompson replaces long-time director Hugh Carver, who announced his retirement from the organization earlier this year.

Thompson’s tenure actually began on September 1, about the time back-to-back hurricanes hit Texas and Florida, followed by fires in California, a third hurricane in the Caribbean and other natural disasters and emergencies.

“This year’s hurricane season has been historical and I’m very proud of our teams responding to Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico,” Thompson stated.

Thompson began his work in full-time ministry as a youth pastor at the age of 27 at the MacArthur Church of God in Beckley, W.V. Over the years he transitioned from youth pastor to music pastor and spent the last 18 years as Music and Media Pastor at Heritage Fellowship in Oak Ridge, Tenn. While at Oak Ridge, he was involved in the community and spent 10 years as a defensive line football coach at Oak Ridge High School.

As a teenager, Thompson learned construction skills while working with his uncle who was a building contractor. He went on his first building mission trip in 1995 to the islands of Trinidad and Tobago and developed a deep love for missions. Since that time he has been involved in many building projects both stateside and internationally.

Thompson is looking forward to growing and expanding MWOA to include MWOA Action Teams in the local church and around the world.

Phil and his wife, Naomi, have four grown children and two grandchildren.
