U.S. Troops Receive Audio Bible Through Satellite Radio

By: Allie Martin —

“The Word of Promise” New Testament Audio Bible was released last October. The set of 20 CDs is a dramatization of the New King James Version of the New Testament, presented by actors such as Jim Caviezel, Michael York, Lou Gossett, Jr., John Schneider, and others.

Recently, Thomas Nelson publishers took excerpts of the set, and along with devotions read by Michael York, made them available in 90-second segments for international radio. The spots are played worldwide and also reach U.S. servicemen and women through the Armed Forces Radio Network.

Carl Amari, producer of the project, says the radio broadcasts are impacting many people for Christ. “The reach is tens of millions of people because we’re on over 200 radio stations, [satellite radio networks] XM and Sirius are picking it up, we have Armed Forces [Radio Network], we have Internet stations picking it up as well,” says Amari. “We know that we’re impacting people just from the emails that we get every single day on it. That’s so much fun to know that what we’re doing is really having an effect on people’s lives.”

Amari says an Old Testament Audio Bible will be released in 2009.
