RAAP to Offer Free Webinar

On May 9 at noon EDT, and again on May 18 at 8pm EDT, the Religious Alliance Against Pornography (RAAP), will conduct a one-hour free webinar on The Marriage Crisis: Pornography’s Destructive Impact. The webinar will explore the extent of the problem within the faith community, addressing the addictive nature of pornography, and presenting practical strategies for hope and restoration.

The webinar’s outline is three-fold:

GOD’S DESIGN: What is the biblical basis for marriage? What do we mean by “the covenantal nature” of marriage? Marriages that last and flourish have “heart” with Christ at the center.

THE REALITY: We will hear the testimony of trial, struggle, and restoration. The extent of the pornography problem in the faith community is overwhelming. The impact is often the destruction of marriages and devastation for our children. But there is hope!

MOVING FORWARD: To address the issue we must first understand the power and addictive nature of pornography. Understanding these issues leads to strategies for restoration and hope. Helpful resources will be presented.

Presenters will be the husband and wife team of Sam and Beth Meier and Dr. Albert Rossi.

Sam Meier, MA, LPC, grew up in an intact family, was an Eagle Scout and a good athlete. But he struggled with pornography from an early age. Beth Meier, MA, teaches 7th and 8th grade religion classes. She played three college sports and has Masters degrees in education and theology. She and Sam have three children.

Dr. Albert Rossi teaches pastoral theology classes at St. Vladimir’s Seminary. He is a prolific author with numerous articles in psychology and religion. He is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of New York, as well as the father of two and grandfather of four.

The Religious Alliance Against Pornography was founded in 1986 with over 30 of the top religious leaders in the United States encompassing the Roman Catholic, Orthodox Christian, Pentecostal, and Protestant Christian Traditions. Together, these religious leaders represented over 100 million Americans. RAAP conducts biannual webinars for information, instruction, and inspiration, and holds monthly conference calls with denominational representatives from multiple religious perspectives. RAAP has conducted conferences on pornography and its influence on the sex trafficking industry, addressed the sexualization of children by various American department stores and corporations, resulting is some of these getting out of the porn business. In 1995, RAAP held the first International Conference on Child Pornography in Manila, with 40 nations and 36 denominations represented. Through partnerships with other organizations such as PureHOPE and Covenant Eyes, RAAP has encouraged and supported the actions of many faith groups including the Church of God.

Dr. James E. Cossey serves as the Church of God representative to RAAP. For additional information about RAAP or about the upcoming webinars, please call Cossey in the Special Projects Office of USA Missions at 423-478-7103, or log on to www.religiousalliance.org.
