A ‘Summons’ To National Prayer

Can a nation be changed in one day? Lou Engle believes it can when thousands of people gather on the National Mall in the nation’s capitol August 16.
Lou Engle, founder of “TheCall” and the Justice House of Prayer, is the visionary behind the event that will encourage thousands of Americans to lay down their differences, engage in corporate worship, and be united in prayer for the nation. “My vision is nothing less than divine intervention. We need a breakthrough now,” says the ministry founder. “…I’m believing that [in one day] God could shift something and a heavenly awakening could take place. People [could] begin to be hungry for God and turn to Jesus.”
There is good reason to make a plea for heaven’s intervention, he says. “Just to see what’s taking place in California: redefinition of marriage — [and] the next thing is transgender marriage,” Engle laments. “This is part of what’s going on, let alone with DC and the elections coming up.”
He includes an election-related issue that surfaces now and then — judicial appointments. “I believe it’s a defining moment of who the next judges are,” says Engle. “Those judges are going to help shape the future of America unless something happens. We desperately need heaven right now.”
For those who are unable to go to Washington for the August 16 gathering, Engle hopes they will take time wherever they are to pray.
“I believe people can pray in their homes, they can pray in their churches,” he suggests, “but there’s something that God has prescribed in Joel 2. If it’s truly a solemn assembly, there is a divine, divine initiative in this thing. It’s a summons….[T]herefore I encourage pastors to get their young people, their adults, pack up their buses, go to TheCall.com, get all the information, and let’s gather as a nation for a truly solemn assembly.”
The first gathering of TheCall occurred at the National Mall in 2000. Now, eight years later, Engle believes the time has come for the nation to truly turn back to God.
