Using Technology to Reach the Lost

Church of God World Missions recognizes the power and importance of technology in spreading awareness and empowering people to make a difference. This article shares how Roger Stephenson and Tina Franklin are using technology in their ministries and mission trips to reach the lost.

Roger Stephenson

Roger Stephenson, a father of three from Meridianville, Alabama is one individual who has a passion for missions and is using technology to share that passion. “I have a calling to minister to children and share God’s love,” Stephenson said. “My recent missions trip to Poza Rica, Mexico, allowed me to serve as a missionary for a week and minister to children and youth at the Alpha y Omega orphanage, as well as other nearby venues.

“Prior to the trip, I used a blog to communicate my personal experiences to my financial and prayer supporters of this trip. It also helped me to document my preparation for the trip. It is my way to give back to my supporters for helping me share the Gospel. I hope it also informs others about opportunities to do part-time evangelism in missions.”

Tina Franklin

I have been on 13 mission trips – all of them to Poza Rica, Mexico. To say that these trips changed my life would be an understatement,” said Tina Franklin, mother of two from Huntsville, Alabama.

“One event that stands out the most is from my first missions trip back in the summer of 2002. My first day there I met Rosa, a little girl who is now part of my family. She stuck like glue to me and rarely let go of my hand. Rosa became my sponsorchild and is one of the reasons I go back to Poza Rica when I can.

“In preparation for the semi-annual missions trip, I prepare an e-mail letter for family and friends to share with them my excitement of the opportunity of being used of God. Using e-mail is quicker and more economical way of getting the message out. After each missions trip, I send an e-mail summary and pictures of the trip. Not everyone can go on a mission trip. Through their prayers and donations however, they are involved in ministering to those children.”

“Sometimes our role is simply to plant the seed and trust God to bring the harvest. Having the technology to share pictures and videos with others, allows those who contribute to realize that when they help send me, they are also being God’s hands and feet.”
