USA Missions Announces ‘Mission North America’

Mission North America will be the new handle for the multiple ministries of the Church of God that engage in resourcing the FINISH Commitment in the United States and Canada. The announcement comes from Dr. J. David Stephens, assistant general overseer and recently appointed Divisional Executive Director for World Evangelization.

In the division, North America refers to the United States and Canada, while Mexico and other countries on the North American continent are served by World Missions.

The ministries of Mission North America include Black Ministries, led by Doyle P. Scott, director; Hispanic Ministries/Editorial Evangelica, Carlos S. Morán, director; Ministry to the Military, Robert Moore, director; Multicultural Ministries, T. Wayne Dority, director; and USA Missions, Mitchell Maloney, director and James E. Cossey, special projects coordinator. Specialized resource ministries that are under the supervision of Mission North America include Marketplace Ministries (Personal Evangelism), Leonard C. Albert, consultant; and Men and Women of Action, Hugh Carver, director.

“The United States was founded to be a haven of spiritual freedom,” Cossey said. “Early Americans and subsequent generations have championed the cause of proclaiming the gospel to the ends of the earth, and America has always been a mission force. Over time, however, our beloved country has become its own mission field—a nation in crisis. Likewise, while Christianity is Canada’s largest religion (67 percent), Canada considers itself to be a secular state. Most Canadians consider religion to be unimportant in their everyday lives. Both the United States and Canada need revival!”

The daunting challenges faced by Mission North America remind us of the giant that David faced in Judah when he cried out ‘Is there not a cause’ (1 Samuel 17:29)? We have a cause in North America today…and we have a commitment—The FINISH Commitment! Mission North America is ready!”
