Year of the Missionary: Dan and Rose Smith

Isaiah 60:1-2 … “Arise, shine; for your light has come and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the Lord will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you.”

In these darkened times, the church must have a Caleb spirit … he saw the reality around him, but he chose to believe the promises of God. Missionaries have to act on those promises in their service to the Lord, no matter what they face on a daily basis.

Career Missionaries Dan and Rose Smith with parachurch groups in Hungary and Albania have multiple skills and responsibilities, much like that of pastors who serve as ministers, administrators, counselors, builders, bosses, community leaders, and so forth. For the people in their area, they not only are doing hands-on ministry, but they are facilitating the ministry of others.

The Smiths sponsor a Ministry House for church leaders where they can go for a time of rest and renewal; they teach conversational English classes; lead worship each week at the International Church of Budapest, and do the same once a month at the Bicske Church. The Smiths conduct a Tuesday night fellowship with university students, and minister each month at the Asian Fellowship. Dan is the executive coordinator for Church Planting University that is now phased into Church Planting MOVE. The Smiths were recently involved in the European FINISH Challenge, and also served as logistic coordinators for numerous other events.

On a personal level, Daniel and Marion, the children of the Smiths, are seeking higher education and ministry. Daniel graduated with highest honors from the University of Southern Mississippi obtaining a degree in computer science, and he continues to work on his master’s degree. Marion, a home-schooled student, chose instead of marching with her graduation class associated with an academy in Tennessee, a travel destination: Montenegro/Albania.

The Smiths are more than grateful for a year of fruitful ministry!
