A Brighter Future

Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America, but it is also the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Forty-eight percent of the 6 million people in Nicaragua live below the poverty line. Many households are single parent homes and many other children are abandoned by their families and society.

The Hogar Agape (“House of God’s Love”) orphanage in Nicaragua is this year’s Lee University Missions Week project. The orphanage houses up to 24 students who are living in the orphanage for a variety of reasons. Some children’s families have no money to care for them and others’ parents have been killed. Some have suffered from physical, sexual, or emotional abuse and have found a safe haven within Hogar Agape.

Lee University is excited about this year’s project because for the first time in Missions Week history, the university has secured a matching funds grant for up to $50,000. Lee has set a fundraising goal of $42,000, which is enough to sustain the orphanage for one year.

Tuesday, November 6, a celebration service was held in the Conn Center during chapel. The Lee Singers led the service in worship and a short video was shown.

Lee University Pastor Dr. Jimmy Harper explains the importance of contributing to the Hogar Agape orphanage: “The home feeds them, clothes them, sends the kids to school and church, teaches them English and computer skills and offers them the love they need on a daily basis. This is a wonderful home for children who have no other options. These children will have a chance to have a brighter future with your help.”

If your church would like to get involved in this project please donate your funds by Wednesday, November 14, 2007.
