Praying for Missionaries

The scripture says … “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord” (Psalm 37:23). No truer edict could be applied to World Missions Director Dr. Tim Hill than when at the 2012 General Assembly a miracle offering was received to assist World Missions in dissolving the missionaries’ delinquent accounts. That wasn’t the last step taken, but only the first of many, such as Marcelly’s Dream and the Israel Initiative with each gaining momentum.

One of the steps is the One Million Hours of Prayer Initiative, perhaps the most important of all initiatives begun. The website www.1plus1.cc is part of a global emphasis on prayer. Without prayer, no program can see increase or success by God’s standards. Prayer is the foundation and a necessary element of the Christian’s walk with the Lord, and has impact in furthering His cause around the world.

Always knowing exactly how to pray for missionaries is often a question that looms before any believer. We can encourage and equip our missionaries as they face many challenges of ministry away from home by:

(1) Praying for open doors

(2) Praying for clear communication

(3) Praying for responsiveness to the gospel

(4) Praying for boldness

(5) Praying for protection

Often, we don’t stop to think about the missionary’s family, but the single missionary, the married missionary, and the missionaries’ children all need the undergirding of prayer, as well. Intercession is the key. It’s a positive action to let them know you are praying for them and offering encouragement; in other words, participate in the “Hold the Ropes” Initiative, one of the latest steps initiated.

The steps that have been clearly ordered of the Lord are now happening by leaps and bounds. We affirm that by your taking the steps with us, God is ordering each one and you will see the returns in your own life.
