Nepal Offers Thanks for Earthquake Relief
Church of God representatives in Nepal recently expressed their gratitude to Church of God World Missions Director Dr. Timothy Hill, Assistant Director Dr. John Childers, and Field Director Ken Anderson for their prayerful support and financial initiative for humanitarian relief funds after the incomparable earthquake (7.8 Richter scale) that took place on April 25, as well as the aftershocks that continued.
Individuals and churches have gone above and beyond in opening their hearts and hands to the people of this small nation. Donations have exceeded expectation.
The government of Nepal reported nearly 8,500 deaths and more than 22,000 injuries. Innumerable houses were either damaged or completely destroyed. Relief supplies consisted of food, tents, and zinc sheets for temporary shelter in six various districts. Included in the food supply was rice, lentil, cooking oil, sugar, and so forth. Soap and mosquito nets were also distributed. One Church of God congregation was the recipient of 480 sheets of tin, and others were provided iron rods and pipes. In some areas, lunch and dinner was provided while the people searched through their belongings, trying to salvage whatever was left.
Another area had available transportation and lodging for the homeless.
With such devastation, the needs are overwhelming. It is difficult to imagine all that must be done, and with this disaster comes the realization the needs will extend for months, even years in some cases, in the recovery process. Yet, anything provided goes a long way in assisting those affected. Most important, they feel they have not been forgotten and are not facing the dilemmas alone.
This is truly an opportunity to show the love of Christ!
The Church of God continues to stand ready on the world scene to help and relieve trauma. Thank you, pastors, churches, and donors for your unselfish giving!
