Operation Compassion Delivers Shoes and Clothing for Women and Children
Each day around the world, children are exposed to numerous diseases because they are walking, running and playing barefooted. It only takes one scrape or cut to allow bacteria to enter the bloodstream creating a perfect storm of ill health among the most vulnerable -children.
Operation Compassion, an independent benevolent ministry with roots in the Church of God, is helping to prevent the spread of these infectious diseases among children by distributing shoes and clothes to as many countries as possible including the United States.
“It does not matter if these children have never owned a pair of shoes or they have lost everything through a disaster, Operation Compassion wants to be there to help save a child,” stated Operation Compassion President Dave Lorency. “In the last 1½ years, Operation Compassion has distributed more than 2 million pairs of shoes worldwide. During one 2 week period, 500,000 pairs were donated and distributed. To further supplement the distribution of shoes, more than 175,000 items of clothing were also made available.”
Clothing has become another focal point for Operation Compassion because adequate clothing is hard to come by for the poor and helpless.
“Clothing which we take for granted is critical for those who do without,” Lorency continued. “Clothing serves four basic needs: 1) warmth from the cold; 2) protection from the sun; 3) uniforms necessary for children to attend school and 4) making a difference in employment for adults.
With this in mind, Operation Compassion and a few select partners have embraced the necessity to help provide as many articles of clothing as possible. Africa and Moldova in Eastern Europe, the Caribbean, Central America and the United States have received more than 1 million articles of clothing.
Operation Compassion cannot fight this battle alone. It’s a global problem needing a global solution. Will you join Operation Compassion?
